Encinitas Lions Club’s 15th Annual Blind Surfing Event on Sunday at South Ponto Beach in Carlsbad

Video production company Sloan Productions from San Diego enjoys another day in the sun, at the beach with the Encinitas Lions Club and San Diego Surfing Academy, who presented the annual Blind Surfing Event at South Ponto Beach in Carlsbad, California.
CBH Video out of the Chicago area tapped Sloan Productions to cover this event. Producer Anne Northrup worked with the crew to get XDCAM HD footage from the land, and Canon 5D Mark II DSLR footage in the water. CBH will produce the video as a news story to be posted to the Lions Clubs International video website, Lions Quarterly video magazine, which shares Lions inspiring stories of how they are making a difference in communities around the world. LQ is posted in January, April, July and October of each year.

Sloan Productions crew spent the day in the sun at Del Mar dog beach in San Diego, shooting the 5th Annual Helen Woodward Animal Center Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon. In this photo, ESPN producer Matt Rissmiller, producing a feature segment for ESPN’s weekly magazine show E:60, interviews Doug Hokstad and his english bulldog named Dozer before their heat on Sunday. Dozer got a well deserved 3rd place in the final, behind last year’s winner Buddy, while the winner of this event was Abbie, doing the now infamous “board swap” in the finals.
This event raised a total of $93,645 in donations and helped raise awareness for orphaned pets while promoting responsible pet ownership. Dog surfing is unique in that it’s not a sport, it’s a relationship between humans, canines and the ocean. It made for a great family day at the beach for surfers and dog-lovers alike. Water DP Bob Sloan put to use a Canon 5D Mark II in an SPL water housing for capturing the dogs in the ocean, and DP Rob Amato used a Panasonic Varicam for topside footage in the specialized E:60 shooting style.

In this sit-down interview, freelance Field Producer Michael Molinari sets out his questions for Graeme about tour highlight moments in 2010, including his career-changing win at the US Open at Pebble Beach. It will be included in a show called “Golf’s Best of 2010″, scheduled to air on Sunday Oct. 31 on CBS, 5-6 PM EST. Other elements shot were B-roll of clubs being built, to use for show open, and an interview with John Melican, Callaway Golf Sr. Global VP of Soft Goods. In this scene, HBO producer Rob Stein interviews Deborah Ann Woll, aka Jessica Hamby, while Director of Photography Bob Sloan, using Panasonic’s Varicam with an attached ring-light, holds a steady shot and Jeff Landie records sound. Bob chooses the ring light for providing very flattering and a virtually shadowless treatment on subjects close to the camera. A Sloan Productions crew and Cinemax teamed up for a fun filled evening on Friday during the busy San Diego Comic-Con 2010 event. Robert Rodriguez showed off his upcoming film “Machete” by filling a nearby parking lot with lowriders and custom Harley motorcycles from local San Diego bike and car clubs and served carne asada tacos out of a lunch truck to amused industry guests and members of the press along with “Machete” co-stars Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez. Special featured clips from the movie were projected on the side wall for all to view, a star studded cast in the movie included: Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal. Cinemax posted the video on their Youtube Channel.
“Machete” is based on the ‘fake’ trailer in Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 ‘Grindhouse’, featuring Danny Trejo and Jeff Fahey reprising their original roles. Machete (Danny Trejo) is a renegade former “Mexican Federale”, who roams the cities, towns, and streets of Texas looking for work after a shakedown from a drug lord called Torrez (Steven Segal).

Shooting “B Roll” sessions for AKA Media Inc. with Pittsburgh Steelers player Troy Polamalu, at DV Creations studio in San Diego. In this scene, professional makeup and hair artists prepare Troy for a 63 Canon 30D multi-cam shot for a web promotion and Head & Shoulders commercial. Reel EFX, Los Angeles, constructed a rig comprised of 63 still cameras to capture Troy Polamalu from all angles. The Reel EFX camera rig is designed to mimic the flip-book, allowing its creators to freeze motion and identify its individual parts.

Sloan Productions constructed a set of frames to be used in multiple scenes for Major League Baseball shooting a tease for the 2010 All Star Game. Director of Photography Bob Sloan leads a Sloan Productions crew with MLB producer Darryl Martins around the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Panasonic Varicam & Canon 5D footage was shot over two days at three different locations, including the Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
In this photo, Bob directs personell for the shot, making sure all props are positioned accordingly. The concept behind this shot is derived from the motion tracking principle, placing markers near each joint to identify his motion by the positions or angles between the markers, a visual-effects technique that allows the insertion of computer graphics into live-action footage also known as match moving.

Shooting behind the scenes of still shoot (Smashbox Studios) for ESPN Magazine with BMX rider Simon Tabron, at at Tony Hawk’s location – vert ramp in Vista, CA. While Simon did some of his iconic moves, including his “gut killer” or something like that where he puts the handlebars in his ab area and planes out his body, balancing it in a hoizontal position. The other move was “the surfer”, where he stands with one foot on handlebars and one foot on seat and rides it like a surf board. Then we did a sit down interview in the vert ramp with Field Producer - Malinda Adams.
Known primarily for his vert riding, 540 variations and a solid 900, Simon Tabron turned pro in 1990 winning three consecutive Vert World Championships (2002-04) and is the only current Vert competitor to ride with no brakes. His smooth style produced the first back-to-back 900s in competition history at X Games ’07, where he earned his second silver medal. Tabron has added a more than a few awards to his trophy case, including Gravity Games gold in ‘02 and seven X Games medals – silver in 2007 and ‘09 in addition to five bronzes along the way. A Liverpool, England, native, Simon has made the move to Southern California to cut down on travel time and enjoy life by the beach.

The Kia Classic, which teed off March 25th at Carlsbad’s La Costa Resort & Spa presented by J Golf.
This is the first time a full-field LPGA Tour event has been held in San Diego County since 1993. Sloan Productions provided key camera coverage during the 4 day event, with 144 of the world’s best competing for the $255,000 first-place check. Sloan Productions provides professional video, sound and lighting in an interview for ESPN Outside the Lines with baseball coach Jeff Dufek from San Marcos High School in San Diego California. Should metal bats be allowed in schools, after a California legislative committee advanced a bill that would place a two-year moratorium on the use of metal bats in high school baseball, responding to safety concerns that were raised when a Marin County teenager was severely injured earlier this year. The moratorium would allow time for the bodies that govern baseball at the high school and collegiate level to review the safety of aluminum and metal bats, which some say are more dangerous than wooden bats.
